Residents of Huldenberg can rely on comprehensive care and support services from the local care centers Keyhof and Ter Meeren, helping them to remain at home for as long as possible.

Getting older brings changes, and sometimes extra help is needed. The local service center in Huldenberg offers various support services to help residents stay at home for as long as possible. When this is no longer feasible, there are many options within the municipality. Ergotherapist Lieve Uytterhoeven from care center Keyhof and care coordinator Els Feyen from WZC Ter Meeren explain the support available in their own village.
The care centers Keyhof and Ter Meeren, both part of Woonzorgnet Dijleland, provide various forms of care and support in Huldenberg. This includes permanent residence in the WZC or in assisted living units. "This way, we help you and your family find a solution that matches your wishes, situation, and life stage," says Els. At WZC Ter Meeren, support is available in the day center, offering care, companionship, and activities. Both WZC's will host an open day on November 8 from 10:00 AM.
For temporary extra care, for example after a hospital stay or when a caregiver is temporarily unavailable, Ter Meeren offers short-term stays. For permanent care and guidance, living in a care center may be a suitable step.
Lieve explains that residents can also live independently in the assisted living units at WZC Keyhof, with care and support nearby. "When your care needs change, we will look together at the best next step for you. There is no fixed path that is the same for everyone; we offer tailored care, because what feels right today may change tomorrow. With support at the right moment, you can sometimes remain independent longer. Therefore, we look not only at the help you need, but especially at what you can still do, enjoy, and find important."
Angèle Kell, a resident of an assisted living unit, shares her positive experience: "I really enjoy living here and feel well-surrounded. I particularly appreciate the connection between the assisted living units and the WZC. I gladly participate in the creative workshop weekly. I have lovely neighbors." Els adds that moving to a care center does not mean letting go of what is important; the goal is to continue living comfortably and meaningfully with as much room as possible for personal choices.
Jenny Storms, residing at WZC Keyhof, receives the help she needs and can continue doing what she enjoys, which gives her family peace of mind. Lieve emphasizes that good care is determined together with the residents, where colleagues provide professional care and volunteers offer extra time and attention.
Keyhof and Ter Meeren aim for strong integration into the community life of Huldenberg. The Help Post at WZC Ter Meeren offers nursing care, and both centers are exploring collaborations with local associations and organizations to become warm meeting places.
Volunteers play a significant role. Els explains that volunteers make time for conversations, walks, or activities, which can make an ordinary day special. A care background is not necessary; anyone who enjoys being with people, is creative, handy, or willing to share time is welcome. Lieve adds that sometimes simply 'being there for someone' can be valuable.
A warm living environment is created not only by good buildings and professional care but especially by people who pay attention to each other. Residents, families, staff, volunteers, and neighbors all contribute. By combining the strengths of Keyhof and Ter Meeren, care is provided that is close, accessible, and above all, human. With the right support and people around you, a new phase of life can also create space for new contacts and opportunities.
