The municipality of Glabbeek is participating in the 'Veilig Over' initiative by Ouders van Verongelukte Kinderen – SAVE vzw, aiming to improve the safety of crossing points.

Crossing the road safely is not always straightforward, and safe crossing points are important for everyone, from children going to school to elderly pedestrians and cyclists. Therefore, Glabbeek is committed to realizing as many safe(r) crossing points as possible within the municipality.
Residents can participate until November 15, 2026, by using www.veiligover.be or the accompanying QR code to indicate on the map of Glabbeek where they believe a safe(r) crossing point is needed or should be improved.
When marking a location, residents can drag a virtual zebra crossing, explain why the spot is unsafe (e.g., lack of lighting, high speeds, heavy traffic, poor visibility, missing or poorly maintained zebra crossing, or too short crossing time), and support others' marked locations with a heart.
After the campaign concludes, all indicated locations will be scientifically evaluated by Vias institute. This evaluation considers factors such as proximity to schools, bus stops, and the number and type of accidents that have previously occurred at that spot. The municipality of Glabbeek commits to accelerating the resolution of at least one bottleneck based on this valuable data, in collaboration with the Agency for Roads and Traffic.

With your help, we want to map where the need for safe(r) crossing points is greatest in our municipality.
