The Province of East Flanders will conduct a study on the water sediment quality along the Molenbeek, Vloedbeek, and Lievensbeek rivers in Ronse on October 20 and 21, addressing the PFAS issue.

The Province of East Flanders is commissioning a water sediment study along the Molenbeek, Vloedbeek, and Lievensbeek rivers in Ronse. The initial fieldwork for this study is scheduled for October 20 and 21. This research is part of a broader investigation into water sediment quality related to the known PFAS problem.
During the study, samples of the water sediment will be collected at various locations and analyzed in an accredited laboratory. This may require access to certain areas along the watercourse, including private properties.
The investigation aims to determine the extent of the (water) sediment contamination. It seeks to provide a clear picture of the type, nature, quantity, and concentrations of polluting substances or organisms present, as well as their origin and distribution area. Furthermore, it will assess the potential for spread and the risk of exposure to humans, animals, plants, and groundwater and surface water.
