The works in the Bellestraat and Molenstraat are proceeding according to schedule. Phase 2 has now been completed, with the exception of the final asphalt top layer. Phase 3 is in its final stages and is expected to be finished by October 21, also excluding the final asphalt top layer.
From October 28, phase 4 of the works will begin. The contractor will continue operations in the next section of the project area, the Molenstraat between the roundabout and Bellestraat house number 192. After the final asphalt layer is applied, road markings will also need to be installed. Until these works are completed, all road users are asked to exercise extra caution. The current diversion for through traffic will remain in effect until all traffic signs and road markings are in place. The bridge over the E40 in the Lombeekstraat will also remain single-lane in one direction until then.
The works involve breaking out existing concrete and cobblestone pavements, laying and renewing sub- and top layers of asphalt, and creating safe pedestrian and cycle crossings to enhance traffic safety for all road users.
The schedule indicates that phase 1 (Bellestraat between the intersection Bellestraat/Lombeekstraat and house number 256) and phase 2 (Bellestraat between house numbers 256 and 218) have already been completed. Phase 3 (Bellestraat between house numbers 218 and 192) runs until October 21. In phase 4, starting October 28, the final asphalt layer will be applied for phases 2, 3, and 4.
Temporary traffic measures are in place. Pedestrians and cyclists with a destination within the work zone can pass (with their bikes by hand), while through traffic must follow the diversion route via Ternatsestraat - Fooststraat - Koudenberg - Brusselbaan - Fosselstraat - Bellestraat - E40 - Essenestraat – Ternatsestraat. The bridge over the E40 in the Lombeekstraat will become single-lane towards Affligem to manage expected traffic pressure. Parking is prohibited along the side of even house numbers within the work zone.
Waste collection will proceed as usual, with the contractor moving inaccessible bins to a collection point. Bpost has been informed and advises using pick-up points for parcel deliveries.
