The carpool parking along the E40 in Bertem will close for one month starting November 9th (until early December). During this period, the Agency for Roads and Traffic will continue work on the new arch bridge and begin the redevelopment of the carpool parking into a Hoppinpunt. This will transform the location into a comfortable transfer point, better connecting bus, bicycle, and car. Improvements include updated bus stops and enhanced facilities for cyclists and carpool users.
The new arch bridge, weighing approximately 4,000 tons, was put in place during the night of October 10th to 11th. Since then, work on the bridge abutments and the Tervuursesteenweg has continued. After placement, the heavy structure requires several weeks to fully settle on the abutments. Surveyors are closely monitoring these movements. Once the bridge is stable, Wegen en Verkeer can proceed with installing the bearings and expansion joints, which accommodate the bridge's movements.
In addition to the installation of bearings and expansion joints, the top of the bridge will also be completed with waterproofing, an asphalt road surface, adapted paving on the cycle paths, lighting, and markings.
The Tervuursesteenweg is expected to reopen in January 2027. The stability of the bridge and the quality of the work are the top priorities. Wegen en Verkeer will announce the exact opening date as soon as it is known.
