The municipality of Maldegem is soon launching 'Bib aan Huis', a new service that delivers library materials to the homes of residents who are temporarily or permanently less mobile.

With 'Bib aan Huis', the library aims to ensure that residents who have difficulty reaching the library can continue to enjoy books, magazines, films, and other materials from its collection. Volunteers play a crucial role in this: they deliver the materials to homes and maintain contact between the user and the library.
To develop this service, the library is seeking committed volunteers. They will regularly visit users, inquire about their interests, and select suitable materials from the collection. Subsequently, they will deliver the materials to the homes and return them to the library afterwards. They will also assist with extending loan periods if necessary. The distance between volunteers and users will be considered. Interested individuals can sign up via Give a Day.
'Bib aan Huis' is aimed at residents who are temporarily or permanently less mobile and for whom a visit to the library is difficult. Currently, the library is primarily seeking enough volunteers to launch the service. Interested users can already register via a specific form and will be contacted once 'Bib aan Huis' is operational. Those who cannot fill out the form themselves or have trouble with the Give a Day registration can receive free assistance from the municipality's digital helpers.
With this new service, the library takes another step towards accessible and inclusive service provision for all residents of Maldegem.
