The Municipality of Lebbeke has adjusted the lighting schedules for its 3,414 public lighting units as part of the Public Lighting Master Plan. This adjustment is a deliberate choice that goes beyond mere energy saving.

In Lebbeke, public lighting is not managed uniformly across all streets. Some streets have their lighting dimmed at night, while on certain rural roads, it is completely switched off for several hours. This is a conscious decision established in the Public Lighting Master Plan.
The municipality has a total of 3,414 lighting units, each with specific operating programs. These programs have recently been updated.
The master plan is based on five pillars: traffic safety, sense of security, environment and surroundings, social experience, and economic aspects. The Municipality of Lebbeke aims not only to save energy but also to align lighting with the function of a street, its usage, and the environment. Consideration has also been given to the ecological darkness needs map from the Agency for Nature and Forest.
In developing the master plan, the Municipality of Lebbeke took into account traffic safety and the sense of security.
