The city of Ghent is expanding its Shop&Go parking initiative by adding 64 new spaces across 11 neighborhoods, bringing the total for the year to 95.

Following an initial screening in June that identified 31 new locations, an additional 64 Shop&Go parking spaces are now being established. This brings the total number of new parking spots created this year to 95, distributed across 11 city neighborhoods.
These designated parking spots allow drivers to park for a maximum of 30 minutes, from Monday to Saturday, between 9 AM and 7 PM. This parking regime is designed to increase turnover, ensuring that these spaces become available more frequently for individuals making quick stops, such as for shopping, dropping off packages, or picking someone up.
In areas with high parking demand, the Shop&Go spaces aim to enhance parking convenience for those needing short-term access during the day, including customers of local businesses.
The City of Ghent has reviewed suggestions from local retailers and conducted a screening of all neighborhoods and sub-municipalities, focusing on the presence and concentration of small retail businesses. This process has led to the designation of 64 additional short-term parking locations.
A city spokesperson stated: "We listened to the retailers and also actively sought out suitable locations for Shop&Go parking. These will soon be available in various neighborhoods and sub-municipalities where they will truly make a difference for those needing to be somewhere briefly or to drop off or pick up someone."
The majority of these new parking spaces will be located in the Ledeberg, Sint-Amandsberg, and Nieuw Gent neighborhoods.
