The city of Aalst is commencing the redesign of Industrielaan, Nachtegaalstraat, and the intersection with Ninovesteenweg in Erembodegem, focusing on rainwater management, transport, and multimodal accessibility.

The project involves collecting rainwater in green buffer zones to replenish the soil and prevent flooding. Excess rainwater will be discharged via an overflow to open ditches or watercourses. The road construction will be optimized for the transport needs of the businesses, considering peak and quiet periods to minimize disruption.
Cyclists will benefit from safe cycle paths through the industrial estates, connecting to the Ninovesteenweg and cycle highways F2 (Ghent - Brussels) and F415 (Burst – Denderleeuw). Bus passengers will find a stop at the intersection with the Ninovesteenweg. The Industrielaan and Nachtegaalstraat are the main arteries for vehicular traffic.
A participation process involving businesses and local residents preceded the design phase. Following studies and a preliminary design, which was reviewed on May 30, 2024, the project will proceed to tender and preparatory utility works. The detailed phasing will be established once the contractor is appointed.
