Due to the combination of spring tide and strong westerly winds, high water levels are expected on the Scheldt. This creates the possibility that the controlled flood area of the Polders of Kruibeke will be activated, causing (parts of) the polders to be submerged. The area will temporarily hold excess water to prevent flooding elsewhere. For safety reasons, the Polders of Kruibeke are therefore being closed preventatively.
The reopening of the polders depends on the weather conditions during the night. If the flood control area is not activated, the polders will be accessible again for the first ferry service on Monday morning, October 26th, at 4:30 AM. If the flood control area is activated, safety services will assess during the night when the polders can be safely reopened. More information will be provided as soon as it becomes available.
Ferry services are available until the last departure on Sunday, October 25th, at 10:30 PM. Further communication regarding Monday morning will follow once the on-site situation has been evaluated.
Visitors are asked to respect all closures and signage. The situation is continuously monitored by safety services and may change depending on weather conditions and water levels.
