This measure, implemented by the Local Authority Denderleeuw, requires drivers to follow cyclists and prohibits overtaking. The bicycle street covers approximately 630 meters, connecting the Iddergem station to Hageveldstraat. Current infrastructure is often disregarded, leading to dangerous situations where cars overtake cyclists and sometimes use cycle/pedestrian paths. The route also passes ’t Landuiterke primary school, where many students cycle to school, making a safe traffic environment crucial.
By transforming this stretch into a bicycle street, the local authority ensures that cars remain behind cyclists. This initiative aligns with the broader goal of allocating more space to vulnerable road users and improving overall traffic safety. An LED sign will be installed with information about the bicycle street, and the police will be asked to monitor compliance with the regulations.
In addition to traffic measures, other events are planned in Denderleeuw. During the Week of the Seniors, starting Monday, November 16, there will be a performance by Larissa and Yves Segers at Parochiezaal Sint-Antonius in Iddergem, from 2 PM to 5 PM. From October 26 to 30, the Flemish Expertise Centre for Caregivers is organizing a week focused on young caregivers. On Sunday, November 29, 2026, Sinterklaas and his Pieten will arrive at Welleplein at 2 PM.
The dance school Cubahinamá Salsa, run by Gino Proot and Christel Debaere, is also mentioned for introducing people to Cuban salsa. On October 19, a detour will be in effect in A. Rodenbachstraat near house number 71 due to utility works, with pedestrian access maintained. Finally, on Sunday, November 8, Willie Verhegghe will give a lecture titled 'War and Peace' at Passage 18, with free participation via the municipal webshop.
