The community center, located at Zwarte Beekstraat 35, aims to be a central hub where local residents can meet, support each other, and collaborate on creating a warm and liveable neighborhood. The festive opening included a look back at four years of community building work in the area.
One of the new initiatives is ‘De Letterpiraten’ (The Letter Pirates), a collaboration with the library supported by the King Baudouin Foundation. This project, involving children and young people from Baasrode, will run for two years, offering playful activities to foster language enjoyment, reading motivation, and self-confidence. Additionally, starting October 2nd, weekly Dutch practice sessions will be held every Friday morning.
Hof ten Rode community center provides accessible support for various needs, from a listening ear and practical assistance to help with digital applications and administrative tasks. Visitors can also find information on local services and organizations, and purchase individual garbage bags.
The center also serves as a base for activities such as communal cooking, creative workshops, bicycle repair, and neighborhood-focused initiatives. The community building work, managed by Groep INTRO since 2021, focuses on strengthening neighborhoods and supporting residents who struggle to access existing services.
Volunteers are currently sought for ‘De Letterpiraten’ and to assist with the Dutch practice sessions. Residents interested in helping with initiatives like litter cleanup or neighborhood greening are also welcome to contribute to building a stronger community.
