During the Open Mind Day, themed “Expect the Unexpected,” the curious can explore the campus of OPZC Rekem. This initiative, a collaboration with Te Gek!? and Zorgnet-Icuro, supported by the Flemish Government, promises an afternoon of discoveries, encounters, and surprises.
Visitors can tour the campus, visit the museum, get acquainted with the nursery, take a covered wagon ride, discover innovative projects, and engage with staff, volunteers, patients, and residents. Interactive activities and the history of OPZC Rekem will also be featured.
Special moments include a conversation with director Johan Hellings about the future of mental healthcare, a lecture by Petra at 3:00 PM on criminal irresponsibility, the brain, and free will, and personal recovery stories. Anita will share her story as a KOPP child at 1:30 PM, Piet van AA will share his experiences at 2:15 PM, Mattijs and Gunther will discuss Narcotics Anonymous at 3:00 PM, and Bram from SCA will highlight a self-help group for sex addiction at 3:45 PM.
Demonstrations in the riding arena will showcase how horses contribute to well-being and recovery, including longeing, horse care, mirroring, and hippotherapy. Between 1:30 PM and 2:30 PM, a covered wagon ride will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Open Mind Day takes place on the green campus in Rekem (Lanaken), at Daalbroekstraat 106. The campus is accessible by car, bicycle, and public transport, with parking provided. A map is available online to help plan your visit.
