The municipality of Houthalen-Helchteren is organizing a series of activities on Tuesday, November 10, and Wednesday, November 11, to commemorate Armistice Day, including moments of reflection, a lantern procession, and a peace service.

On Tuesday, November 10, the evening begins with three moments of reflection at memorial monuments: at 4:30 PM at the Monument Oud-Gemeentehuis in Helchteren, at 4:50 PM at the Monument Gevallen Vleugels in the cemetery of Houthalen, and at 5:10 PM at the Monument voormalig gemeentehuis in Houthalen.
This will be followed by an atmospheric program featuring a parent-child workshop 'Make your own lantern' at 5:30 PM. Participants can creatively work together to make a unique lantern in preparation for the procession. Starting at 6:00 PM, the lantern procession will commence, with participants walking with their homemade lanterns. Along the route, atmospheric entertainment and performances will provide a special experience centered around peace, hope, and togetherness.
After the procession, at 7:00 PM, there will be a convivial gathering at the Sint-Martinuskerk. Around the field kitchen, a heartwarming bowl of soup with bread will be offered. Visitors are asked to bring their own soup bowls.
On Wednesday, November 11, Armistice Day, the commemorations will take center stage. At 9:45 AM, there will be a floral tribute at the Oud-Gemeentehuis in Helchteren. At 10:30 AM, a peace service will be held in the Sint-Martinuskerk. At 11:30 AM, a final floral tribute will take place at the monument Alors on Danse, next to the NAC.
The municipality invites everyone to commemorate the past together, celebrate peace, and pass on the message of togetherness to future generations.
