The Children's Municipal Council of Hamont-Achel has officially launched with 23 students from the fifth and sixth grades who will be contributing ideas for their city this school year.

The 23 members, all residents of Hamont-Achel, will propose ideas on what can be improved or changed for children in the city. To gauge children's opinions, 175 students from the fourth, fifth, and sixth grades previously completed a survey about their neighborhoods and free time. This revealed that play and leisure time are significant topics for many children.
During the first meeting, the council members introduced themselves and discussed the survey results. Mayor Tom Cox also met the members and thanked them for their enthusiasm in contributing to the future of Hamont-Achel.
In the coming months, the children's council members will exchange ideas, seek solutions, and develop proposals to discuss with the local government. Other residents can also share ideas and participate in projects via the participation platform www.haptoe.be.
