Starting December 13, 2026, three extra early trains will operate on weekdays between Hasselt and Genk. The first train from Hasselt will depart at 5:02 AM, a significant shift from the current 6:35 AM departure.
The evening service will also be enhanced. An additional train will depart from Genk at 10:06 PM, offering more flexibility for commuters, students, and visitors attending evening events.
From December 2028, the train service will be further expanded. On weekdays, a train will run every half hour throughout the day between Genk and other destinations. The IC train from Blankenberge will then run directly to Genk, providing a half-hourly connection to cities including Leuven, Brussels, Ghent, and Bruges.
Passengers requiring a connection in Hasselt will also experience shorter waiting times for connecting trains to various destinations.
