The ban applies year-round and includes not only setting off fireworks but also possessing, storing, or preparing them. The message is clear: do not buy fireworks to set off in Genk, as it is not permitted.
The prohibition covers all types of fireworks, including party and decorative fireworks, firecrackers, thunderflashes, and small bangers or smoke bombs. These smaller products often cause unexpected bangs and can be dangerous to users or nearby people and animals.
Violators risk a GAS fine. For adults, this can amount to up to 500 euros, and for minors, up to 175 euros. From the age of 14, a GAS procedure can be initiated, potentially involving mediation or alternative sanctions.
