The Oxford Cognitive Screen (OCS) is a brief and efficient cognitive screening tool applicable to patients in the acute phase of a stroke. The OCS-NL, the Dutch version, assesses cognitive domains most affected by stroke: attention, memory, language, numerical cognition, and praxis. This version is adapted to be inclusive for patients with aphasia, neglect, or apraxia, and its administration and scoring are straightforward.
The original English version of the OCS was developed, normed, and validated at the University of Oxford, demonstrating good reliability and validity. In this validation study, the psychometric qualities of the Dutch-translated version were examined in a large group of patients who had experienced a CVA (cerebrovascular accident). Patients from institutions including ZOL, UZ Leuven, and Revarte were included in this project.
The findings from this research have been published in various scientific journals and presented at conferences. Researchers such as prof.dr. Céline Gillebert and Hanne Huygelier from the Neuropsychology Lab at KU Leuven, along with colleagues from ZOL, played a key role in conducting the study between 2016 and 2019.
