From September 25, 2026, a new exhibition stand will be available at the visitor entrance of the Provincial House in Limburg. This mini-exhibition marks the start of the province's autumn campaign, focusing on open space corridors, a crucial element of the Space Pact 2040, aimed at preserving and strengthening open space in Limburg.
An open space corridor is defined as a large, largely undeveloped zone within an already built-up environment. These spaces help maintain a visible, recognizable, and experienceable landscape, preventing the merging of cities, towns, and business parks, thus keeping the Limburg landscape open and attractive.
The Province of Limburg has identified eight open space corridors. Concrete trajectories have been initiated for four of them: the N78 in Rekem/Opgrimbie, the Zuidelijke Stadsrand in Maaseik, the Kanaalsplitsing in Tessenderlo-Ham, and the N2/Stadsbeemd in Halen. In collaboration with local authorities and partners, area visions and action plans are being developed to protect and enhance these valuable open spaces for the future.
The exhibition stand uses maps, photos, and clear explanations to illustrate the importance of open space corridors, their locations, and the visible results on the ground. This initiative is part of a broader autumn campaign, which also includes a lunch webinar on open space corridors. In the coming weeks, short videos showcasing the collaborative efforts with partners to preserve open space will be shared via the social media channels of province Limburg.
