Members wishing to use the Open+ service can now access the library outside of regular staffed opening hours. To utilize this extended access, attending a free information session is mandatory. During this session, participants will receive explanations on how the system works, the practical arrangements, and the safe, independent use of the library facilities.
With Open+, the library remains accessible daily from the end of staffed opening hours until 10:00 PM. On Sundays, public holidays, and closing days, access is available from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, unless otherwise communicated. During these unstaffed hours, members can borrow and return materials, read, study, and use the available facilities.
Alderman for Libraries, Esmeralda Meyen, emphasizes the importance of this initiative: “With Open+, we are making the library a place that better aligns with the rhythm of our residents' lives. Not everyone can visit the library during the day, and an extra opportunity can be welcome for those who wish to read or study quietly. The information sessions are a crucial first step: we want users to understand how Open+ works and to feel confident moving around the library independently and safely.”
Open+ offers additional opportunities, particularly for school-aged young people. Tariq, a member who already uses the library for studying, is pleased with the new service: “I've been studying at the library for a long time, but I'm glad I can now also use the library during the unstaffed opening hours. I can't concentrate as well at home, and here it's perfect!”
Open+ is available to members aged 17 and older who have been members of Bibliotheek Beringen for at least two months and have no outstanding costs of 5 euros or more. Participation in an information session and signing the user agreement are mandatory.
The information sessions are free, but advance registration is required. Available times and more information can be found on the Bibliotheek Beringen website and at the library's information desk.
