The province of Antwerp is renewing its walking network in Zandhoven with a new approach focusing on digital route planning, quality walking areas, and attractive walking loops.

The project ‘Step by step to more walking pleasure’ aims to offer walkers more comfort, experience, and inspiration. A large part of the current physical walking junctions in Zandhoven will eventually disappear but will remain in digital form via the online route planner and walking apps. The province is currently examining which fixed and signposted walking routes in Zandhoven can be further developed.
The renewed offering combines different forms of walking. Strong walking areas will remain signposted with the familiar red and white signs, supplemented by virtual junctions, ready-made walking loops, and clear starting points with practical information. This renewal follows an evaluation of over 4,000 kilometers of walking routes in the province, focusing on safety, nature experience, route quality, accessibility, and variety.
The cycling junction network remains unchanged and was recently updated with a new map available at the town hall and Den Blijk. For Zandhoven, the cycling network has remained largely the same, although some adjustments have been made in other municipalities.
Walkers can use the app from Wandelknooppunt.be to plan free routes using both physical and digital junctions. The paid version also offers GPS support.
