The UrbanCubby's contain various types of sports and play equipment such as footballs, basketballs, kubb, beach tennis paddles, and volleyball equipment. At Scheersel, petanque balls are also available, and in the summer, the offering will be supplemented with sandbox toys. The selection may vary by location and can be adjusted in the future based on user needs.
The initiative aims to encourage everyone in an accessible way to move more, play outside, and have fun together. Borrowing equipment is simple: scan the QR code on the locker with your smartphone, choose the desired item, and the locker opens automatically. No app installation is required.
The equipment is intended for on-site use and should be returned to the locker after playing. These smart lockers were purchased as part of the BOA-boost project, an initiative by the local government to make existing play and sports fields more attractive and create additional opportunities for movement and social interaction.
