Renovation works on the old town hall in Wommelgem's Kerkplaats will commence on October 20, aiming to preserve the historic heritage site.

In Wommelgem, renovation works on the old town hall at the Kerkplaats will begin on October 20. The contractor will carry out various tasks on the historic building over the coming months, including the renewal of the roof, facades, and exterior woodwork. The works are currently scheduled to last until the end of May 2027.
Through this investment, the local authority aims to preserve an important piece of heritage. The old town hall has been a landmark in the town center for nearly 140 years.
During the works, there will be temporary disruptions in and around the public domain. Scaffolding will be erected around the building for safe execution. The De Vadderpad will be temporarily closed. The sidewalk and parking spaces in front of the old town hall, including two disabled parking spots on Kaakstraat, will be used as a construction zone. Two alternative parking spaces will be provided across the street, near house number 1.
Despite the construction, the building will remain accessible. The police entrance on Kaakstraat, the entrance to Gezondheidshuis Dahlia, and the associated parking will be accessible throughout the renovation.
The local authority acknowledges the potential inconvenience and thanks residents, visitors, and traders for their understanding and cooperation.
