Starting Monday, October 5, 2026, the contractor for the utility companies will carry out works at the connection of Kapelstraat with the street Molleveld. To perform the work on the gas pipes, a large excavation pit will be created. As a result, the street Molleveld will be temporarily inaccessible by car.
This means that motorized traffic to and from Molleveld street will not be possible. Waste collection in Molleveld street can also temporarily not take place with the waste trucks. A temporary waste collection point will be set up in Kapelstraat, at the beginning of the construction zone. Residents are asked to place their diftar container, PMD, or paper & cardboard there in time. If this is difficult, you can potentially approach the contractor for assistance.
After working hours, the excavation pit will be covered with road plates, exclusively intended to safely cordon off the site. Pedestrians, cyclists, wheelchair users, and strollers can move over these cover plates. It is absolutely forbidden to drive motorized traffic over the cover plates, as the pit with utility lines underneath is not designed for such heavy loads.
To limit the inconvenience for the residents of Molleveld, temporary use can be made of the parking lot on the Molleveld site during the works. This parking lot is accessible via the entrance and exit in Kapelstraat. Residents can also always use the parallel parking spaces in Kapelstraat.
The contractor estimates the duration of these works at approximately three weeks. If everything proceeds according to plan, the street can be reopened by October 26, 2026. This naturally depends on site and weather conditions.
The temporary closure only affects the residents of Molleveld street. The houses in Kapelstraat remain accessible during this phase of the works. Residents of Molleveld street will receive a newsletter about these works.
