The municipal executive is developing a completely new Spatial Implementation Plan (RUP) for the Centrum and is presenting the first concrete proposals to residents. From Monday, October 19 to Thursday, December 17, 2026, interested parties can view the initial note and provide their input. An information session will also be held on Thursday, October 29, in the council chamber ’t Getouw.
The college of mayor and aldermen is organizing this public consultation in accordance with the Flemish Spatial Planning Code. The consultation concerns the initial note, its accompanying process note, and the plan-MER screening for the complete revision of the RUP Centrum. The current RUP Centrum, approved in 2015 and later partially amended twice, is being revised to address new challenges and opportunities. Clearer choices will be made regarding green spaces and climate, construction and housing, heritage and visual quality, trade and hospitality, and future developments in the Centrum. The planning area will also be slightly expanded in this revision.
The initial note is the first substantive step and contains concrete proposals that will be further investigated. For example, it examines how the Centrum can be made greener and more climate-resilient, how new developments can better integrate with their surroundings, how heritage and visual quality can be given more weight, and how trade, hospitality, housing, work, and other functions can be allocated appropriate space. The note also investigates potential significant environmental effects of the proposed changes. The proposals are deliberately concrete enough for assessment, and feedback will be incorporated into further research.
The initial note, process note, and plan-MER screening can be consulted during the consultation period via www.gemeentemol.be/rupcentrum. Documents can also be viewed in print at the spatial planning department, Molenhoekstraat 2, 2400 Mol, during opening hours.
Residents can share their points of attention, opportunities, concerns, suggestions, and alternatives via an e-form on the website, by letter to the college of mayor and aldermen, or by email to ro@gemeentemol.be. Submissions can also be made in person at the spatial planning department.
For those seeking more information or having questions, an information session will be held on Thursday, October 29, in council chamber ’t Getouw (Molenhoekstraat 2, 2400 Mol). There will be short plenary presentations at 5:30 PM and 7:30 PM, followed by a continuous information market where staff and experts will answer questions.
Residents and property owners within the RUP Centrum's planning area will also receive a brochure detailing the main proposals, explaining what is already decided and what is not, and how to respond. All information is available on the project page www.gemeentemol.be/rupcentrum, which will remain the central information point for the RUP process.
Following the consultation, feedback and advice will be processed, and proposals will be further investigated and refined. The RUP will then be drafted, followed by a formal participation moment during the public inquiry for the draft RUP.
