On Monday, October 26, the first four new hiking maps for the Noorderkempen region were launched, including the Meren & Woud map which replaces the previous Grote Netewoud waypoint map.

The new maps offer over 2,000 kilometers of hiking pleasure along marked waypoints and are a welcome addition for hikers, especially in the run-up to the autumn holidays.
The Meren & Woud hiking map combines the waypoints of Dessel, Mol, Balen, Geel, and Meerhout onto a single map. This version will be current until 2031 and costs 8 euros. The map will soon be available for pickup at the reception of the town hall, the library, and the Grote Netewoud visitor center.
This map guides hikers from the wild nature along the Grote Nete to endless water views in the Kempen 'Lake District'. Routes can be planned along lakes, ponds, and canals in Mol and Dessel, moors, fens, and swamp forests in the Grote Netewoud nature park, and numerous charming waterside spots like beach bars and marinas.
The launch is part of the 'Wandelwissel' project by Antwerpen province, which provides an extensive update to the hiking waypoints, focusing on quality, variety, distribution, and accessibility. In September and October, changes in Meerhout were completed, with full completion expected by October 30, 2026. Updates are already visible on www.wandelknooppunt.be, although not all colored zones are displayed correctly on the app.
The municipal hiking booklet will be updated in the spring of 2027 following the thorough renewal of the waypoint network. For the most current information on walking routes in Meerhout, consult https://www.meerhout.be/wandelen-in-meerhout.
