On Wednesday, November 11, Hulshout commemorates war victims with the inauguration of a new war memorial at Prof. Dr. Vital Celenplein. This monument unites the names of war victims from Hulshout, Houtvenne, and Westmeerbeek in one place, emphasizing the connection between the sub-municipalities and keeping the memory of the victims alive.
A poem at the monument underscores this connection, while the design includes a special element referencing Hulshout's past. The youth will also have a special role during the inauguration; the children's municipal council and pupils from local schools will bring their own artworks as a tribute to the war victims.
The commemoration begins at 10:30 AM with a service in the Sint-Mattheüskerk of Hulshout. Around 11:15 AM, a procession, accompanied by the fanfare of Hulshout, will proceed to the Prof. Dr. Vital Celenplein. There, mayor Elien Bergmans will speak, followed by the official inauguration of the new war memorial. Subsequently, the names of the fallen from Hulshout, Houtvenne, and Westmeerbeek will be read.
Everyone is welcome to join in remembering the war victims and experiencing this special moment.
