The Agency for Roads and Traffic (AWV) and sewer manager Pidpa are resuming work on the N10 between Berlaar and Heist-op-den-Berg. The projects include the construction of separate cycle paths and the transformation of the Fabiola roundabout at the intersection with the Mechelsesteenweg (N15) into an ovonde. These works are part of a larger plan to renew the cycle paths along the N10 for over 10 kilometers in Heist-op-den-Berg, Putte, and Berlaar.
Following a period of legal and procedural challenges, preparatory utility works will commence on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. These works, carried out by Fluvius, will last until December 19 and focus on relocating and modernizing electricity and gas lines. Further work in the verges with minimal traffic disruption will follow in January and February 2027. Starting March 2027, Pidpa will begin its own utility works, after which the sewer and road works for the construction of the cycle paths and the ovonde will commence in May 2027.
During the period from November 3 to December 19, the Mechelsesteenweg (N15) will be closed on both sides of the roundabout. Motorized and bicycle traffic will be diverted via adjacent streets to discourage through traffic. Similar disruptions are expected from March 2027, with specific details yet to be finalized. Traffic measures for the actual sewer and road works starting in May 2027 are also still under discussion.
Earlier phases of the project, such as the renovation of the Aarschotsebaan up to the Houwstraat in August 2024 and the conversion of the intersection with the Schrieksesteenweg into a roundabout (March 2024 - July 2025), have already been completed. The works on the Fabiola ovonde now represent the next significant sub-project.
