The municipality of Heist-op-den-Berg celebrates ten years of solidarity with Cambodia through the local association CBAVC Belgium, which has already provided over 530 water wells and sanitation facilities for vulnerable families.

For ten years, CBAVC Belgium has been working from Heist-op-den-Berg to support vulnerable families and children in Cambodia. What began as an initiative to help people has grown into an association that, thanks to the support of volunteers, sympathizers, and sponsors, has already achieved a great deal.
In Cambodia, access to clean water is not a given for everyone. Families sometimes have to travel long distances to fetch water. A water well close to home can drastically change their daily lives. Thanks to the efforts of CBAVC Belgium, over 530 water wells and a dozen sanitation facilities have been realized in recent years. Behind these figures are real people: children who spend less time fetching water, parents who can better care for their families, and families for whom a basic necessity has suddenly become much more accessible.
The solidarity starts close to home, with people dedicating their time, cafés and DJs collaborating, and sponsors who warmly support the project. A prime example is the Crazy Kroegentocht, which will take place for the tenth time on Saturday, December 26, 2026, in the center of Heist-op-den-Berg. More than twenty DJs will provide music and ambiance in the local cafés that evening, all playing for a good cause without personal profit. Those who cannot attend in person can also enjoy the music via Radio Christina.
CBAVC Belgium continues to support new projects. In the autumn of 2026, it was decided to finance another six water wells and three sanitation blocks. Preparations for their implementation are in full swing. These are projects that may not sound spectacular, but they can make a world of difference for the families involved.
Solidarity doesn't always have to be complicated. Sometimes it starts with a volunteer rolling up their sleeves, an association organizing an event, or someone deciding to make a contribution. What seems like a modest gesture to us can make a difference for a family in Cambodia for years to come. After ten years of CBAVC Belgium, the thought that you don't have to live on the other side of the world to make a change there is a powerful motivator.
