Households that heat with gas or heating oil are legally obliged to have their central heating system regularly maintained. The Flemish Government offers a subsidy for this, which applicants with a lower income can request from the Energiehuis.
An oil boiler must be serviced annually, while a natural gas boiler requires maintenance every two years. Regular maintenance ensures better performance, lower fuel consumption, checks safe operation, and prevents high repair costs, thereby extending the boiler's lifespan.
The subsidy for heating maintenance can be applied for at the Energiehuis for those with a (household) income below:
- €29,830 for a single person
- €44,740 for a single person with a disability or one dependent
- €44,740 for a couple without dependents
To apply for the subsidy, one must first engage a certified technician for the maintenance. This technician will provide a cleaning and combustion certificate and an invoice after the service. The invoice must be paid by the applicant. Subsequently, the subsidy can be applied for online or by making an appointment at the Woon- en energieloket (Housing and Energy Desk) in Grobbendonk. The following documents are required: the maintenance invoice (issued from 2025 onwards), the cleaning and combustion certificate, and the identity card with PIN or the ItsMe app.
After verification of the documents, the subsidy will be paid within a few months. The subsidy equals the cost of maintenance, with a maximum of €192 for maintenance performed in 2026 (and €188 for maintenance performed in 2025). For maintenance carried out in 2025, applications can still be submitted until November 15, 2026.
