Caregivers looking after a person in need of care can apply for this allowance. A person is considered in need of care if they receive the Care Budget for the severely in need of care monthly or have a recognized disability of at least 12 points with the Federal Public Service Social Security.
Parents of children with a disability may also be eligible. According to the regulations, this applies to children aged 0 to 21 years with at least 6 points with the Federal Public Service Social Security, of which at least 4 points are in pillar 1 or 3, or with a corresponding certificate from Kind & Gezin.
Those who have not yet applied for the 2026 caregiver allowance can do so before December 31st. The application is preferably made online via the city's website, but can also be submitted to the social care department of the Sociaal Huis.
