The Municipality of Bornem has allocated €77,430 from its citizen budget to eight projects initiated and carried out by residents.

During a voting show on Wednesday, October 28, at Complex B, it was announced which projects from the first edition of the Bornem citizen budget would receive their funding. Of the available €78,000, €77,430 will go to eight projects conceived and executed by Bornem residents themselves.
These eight projects are the result of a successful first edition. In total, 30 ideas were submitted, with 18 projects reaching the voting round. 931 Bornem residents cast their votes, representing approximately 5% of the inhabitants over 12 years old.
The process began in January, when residents could submit projects. A core team assessed the feasibility and conditions, with a maximum cost of €25,000 per project. Subsequently, 18 projects were presented at the 'Dag van de Bornemnaar' (Day of the Bornem Resident), marking the start of the voting period. In September, all Bornem residents aged 12 and over could vote for their three favorite projects via itsme.
The budget was distributed live during the voting show, in order of the number of votes received. Projects that fit within the remaining budget were awarded. If a project exceeded the budget, it was skipped, and the next project in line was considered.
