The municipality of Bonheiden regularly organizes morning tours for primary school students through the municipal building. This time, the third-graders from Klimop primary school were the guests. Municipal employees explained in a playful yet informative way what their department does for the community.
The students visited, among other places, the offices of the local police, spatial planning department, technical services, environmental services, and the library. Each class also had a 'wedding' inaugurated by the mayor.
During the visit to the communication department, the students were invited to write down their experiences. Class 3A (Tomas) shared: "We took a photo with the mayor, and Laure and Juliette got married. I also put on a police helmet and suit!" Class 3B (Sooi) added: "I liked visiting the mayor because I got married to Lio today."
Bonheiden Municipality considers it important to playfully inform children about the workings of a municipal government. By immersing them in the adult world, they hope children will better understand where and why certain decisions are made later on.
