On Sunday, October 11, 2026, local heritage will be the focus at the Sint-Jan Baptist Church in Houthulst. Two special restorations will be festively presented to the public: the restored arches within the church and the historical sundial on the exterior facade.
Extensive work has been carried out recently to restore valuable historical elements of the church. The painting of the six arches in the nave has been meticulously restored, bringing back its original appearance from about a hundred years ago in all its glory. Additionally, the historical sundial has been repaired and reattached to the angel on the side facade of the building.
The program for Sunday, October 11, 2026, includes a Eucharist celebration at 9:00 AM, followed by a festive reception. Visitors will have the opportunity to view and photograph the restored elements up close.
