From December 11 to 18, 2026, the Berrefonds organizes the Koesterweek, an initiative honoring families who have lost a child. The City of Nieuwpoort will pay special attention to making grief discussable and fostering connection.

The Koesterweek, an initiative by the Berrefonds, an expertise center for anyone who has lost a child, will take place from Friday, December 11 to December 18, 2026. This week is dedicated to all families who have lost a child, regardless of when the loss occurred.
The City of Nieuwpoort supports this initiative, drawing attention to parents, grandparents, siblings, and anyone who has lost a child. The importance of making grief discussable, creating connection, and showing that no one has to face it alone is emphasized.
Families are encouraged to show their support with a small gesture, such as hanging a heart in their window, sending a warm message, or making time to listen. The aim is to ensure that deceased children are not forgotten and that families feel supported.
On Sunday, December 13, 2026, it is World Children's Day, a global commemoration for deceased children. Due to different time zones, a wave of light circles the globe.
