The municipal primary school De Pagaaier in Sint-Joris, a sub-municipality of Nieuwpoort, has had a new multifunctional space since Friday, October 16, 2026: the 'Rustmobiel Jos'.
The wooden trailer, assembled by the staff of the municipal Technical Execution Service, offers students a quiet and warm place for individual support, learning sessions, or to relax. The mobile unit was festively inaugurated on the playground on October 16, 2026. The name ‘Jos’ refers to the Alderman for Education, Jos Decorte. A student from the school christened the mobile unit, after which Mayor Kris Vandecasteele cut the ribbon. The realization was made possible with support from the parent council, City of Nieuwpoort, and Cera.
The 'Rustmobiel' addresses the individual needs of students who learn differently or at different paces. The space is used for pre-instruction, remediation, reading sessions, individual guidance, and care discussions. It also aims to foster students' enjoyment of reading. The goal is to create an inviting place where students can read peacefully and discover their love for reading.

"With the Rustmobiel, De Pagaaier gains a warm and multifunctional space that combines various functions. Students can receive extra support, read quietly, or withdraw when needed. This contributes to their well-being and gives the school additional possibilities to respond to the individual needs of children. It also aligns well with the charter recently signed by the City of Nieuwpoort and De Pagaaier. Through this charter, we commit to further strengthening the collaboration between the local government and our municipal school. The Rustmobiel demonstrates how such commitment can take shape in practice, for the benefit of our students."
The realization of the Rustmobiel is a concrete example of the collaboration between Stad Nieuwpoort and the municipal primary school De Pagaaier, who signed the charter 'Proud of my municipality. Proud of the municipal school' on Wednesday, September 30, 2026. This charter confirms the mutual commitment to bring the local government and the municipal school closer together.

"This is a beautiful example of what we can achieve when our school and the City's technical services join forces. The employees of the Technical Execution Service have used their knowledge and craftsmanship to turn a construction kit into a fully functional space that our students can use every day. The result is primarily for the children of De Pagaaier. It is wonderful to see how the dedication of our employees directly contributes to their learning environment and well-being."
