The Foot Traffic Barometer, a national survey, investigates how pleasant, safe, and comfortable it is to travel on foot through Menen. Participants can share their experiences until October 31, 2026.

How pleasant, safe, and comfortable is it to move around our city on foot? This question is central to the Foot Traffic Barometer, a nationwide survey collecting pedestrian experiences across Belgium. Following a successful first edition in 2023, which saw over 13,500 participants, the second edition aims to reach a broader audience and analyze the evolution of the situation over the past three years.
Everyone is a pedestrian, whether commuting to school or work, shopping, heading to the bus, or simply enjoying a walk. Yet, concrete data on how pedestrians move and the obstacles they face is often lacking. Therefore, your opinion is crucial. By participating, you help paint an accurate picture of the practical situation and indicate what is needed for smooth, safe, and comfortable pedestrian travel.
The online questionnaire is available from September 16 to October 31, 2026, and takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It is possible to participate for multiple municipalities. Responses are anonymous, and results are expected in early 2027. Additionally, every participant has a chance to win an attractive prize.
Municipalities and cities that receive at least 50 responses will be provided with a detailed report containing specific insights for their territory. This report serves as a valuable foundation for strengthening local pedestrian policy.
The Foot Traffic Barometer is an initiative by Voetgangersbeweging, WALK, and Tous à Pied, supported by the FPS Mobility and Transport. The organizers urge everyone to share the survey with family, friends, and neighbors to collectively build safer and more pleasant walking environments.
