Kortrijk is making significant investments in the future of elderly care through substantial upgrades to its residential care centers. Alongside preparations for a new care campus serving the northern districts, crucial modernization efforts are currently underway. These projects aim to enhance resident comfort and bolster the sustainability and quality of the care infrastructure, with the goal of transforming the centers into modern, future-ready care campuses.
This year's investment exceeds 730,000 euros. Kortrijk's administrative agreement prioritizes increased sustainability, the development of care campuses, and affordable elderly care. Recent upgrades include new solar shading for Rietveld's care center and assisted living units (99,056.89 euros), roof covering renewals (168,620.87 euros), and a relighting project introducing energy-efficient LED lighting (45,874.09 euros).
Furthermore, television systems in Biezenheem are being updated with modern hospitality TVs (17,392.78 euros). Investments have also been made in new solar shading (123,372.81 euros) and facade cladding, including new components and window sills (215,424.03 euros), to improve the indoor climate and extend the building's lifespan.
The relighting project also extends to the De Weister care center, with an investment of 42,231.20 euros for energy-efficient LED lighting. Alderman for Care, Maxim Veys, highlighted the importance of a supportive environment for care services, especially considering increasingly warmer summers that necessitate effective cooling systems and robust insulation.
The total investment for the recently approved infrastructure and modernization works amounts to 721,636.34 euros, covering roof renewal, facade work, solar shading, LED lighting, and updated digital resident systems. Additionally, Zorg Kortrijk is allocating an extra 2 million euros for renovations at Biezenheem in Bissegem.
In parallel, Zorg Kortrijk is developing a new, integrated care campus for the northern districts. This facility will consolidate residential care, day care services, community support, and a modernized central kitchen, which will supply healthy and affordable meals to care centers, community hubs, and for home delivery.
