Following the fire at an old warehouse on Ten Houtedreef on Friday, October 23rd, which released a large amount of smoke and soot into the surrounding area, Kortrijk City is closely monitoring the situation. Initial investigations indicate that residents can continue to use rainwater safely, as no dangerous chemical substances were detected.
For a few homes directly adjacent to the warehouse, additional research is ongoing regarding potential soil contamination. Experts are taking samples at various locations. As a precaution, residents of these neighboring houses have been advised not to consume vegetables from their own gardens until the results are known. For residents in the wider vicinity, vegetables, fruits, and other edible plants can be safely consumed after thorough washing if visible soot particles are present.
Anyone with questions or seeking further explanation can attend the information session for local residents. It will be held on Wednesday, October 28th at 7 PM in 't Forum hall at VIVES, Doorniksesteenweg 145 in Kortrijk. During this meeting, the involved emergency services will provide an update and answer residents' questions.
