In Sint-Idesbald, on Lucionplein, Bastiaan Pieters will set up a large stretch tent, surrounded by beach cabins, Christmas trees, and atmospheric lighting. This brings the beach bar vibe to winter, with a small oyster bar and local products. The jury praised the thoroughly developed concept, clear visualizations, and attention to accessibility.
On the seafront in Oostduinkerke-Bad, Teusje VOF of Winter Up ‘t Zand will create a covered meeting place with winter decorations, local products, and entertainment for all ages. The operators are experienced, also running Beachbar Up ‘t Zand, Brasserie T’Zand, and wine bar Win’est. Their hospitality experience and strong local roots were decisive.
An open call was held for both locations. Candidates were assessed on concept quality, hospitality experience, local roots, and offering with prices. The municipal council aimed to give opportunities to entrepreneurs with a strong connection to Koksijde.
Mayor Sander Loones stated: “December by the sea is often dark and quiet. With these winter bars, we give residents, second-home owners, and visitors an extra reason to come to the promenade. Both operators have their roots here, and it shows in their plans.” Following the winter, an evaluation will take place, potentially leading to contract extensions for future seasons.
The winter bars are intended to become cozy meeting places. Additionally, visitors can enjoy the ice rink in Koksijde, where the Jingle Bar will offer drinks and warm moments from December 12 to January 3, alongside ice skating fun. Local associations will manage the Jingle Bar, supporting their activities while creating atmosphere.
The Jingle Bar will officially open on Friday, December 11. More information and prices are available at www.visitkoksijde.be.
