The municipality of Dentergem, along with Oostrozebeke and Wielsbeke, is encouraging residents to create facade gardens, offering installation support and free plants.

Residents in Dentergem with a sidewalk at least one and a half meters wide are eligible to apply for a facade garden. The planting strip, typically 30 cm wide but adjustable as long as passage is guaranteed, can be chosen in length by the resident, respecting adjacent properties. The municipality will handle part of the practical installation.
The project includes removing paving, installing a border stone, and filling the planting strip with topsoil. Participants will also receive a free facade plant of their choice from a list on the website. For climbing plants, the support structure will also be installed. The actual planting is the responsibility of the resident.
Facade gardens contribute to greener streets, attract beneficial insects, and provide cooling during warm days. This initiative, by Regionaal Landschap West-Vlaamse Hart and the three municipalities, is part of the LEADER project 'Climate-Robust Biodiverse Gardens'.
Support is available for a maximum of 25 facade gardens per municipality in Dentergem, Oostrozebeke, and Wielsbeke for the 2026-2027 period. Applications will be assessed by the local authority. The planned installation of planting strips is scheduled between February and March 2027.
