The new Language Point, located in the Deerlijk library at Hoogstraat 124, offers residents whose mother tongue is not Dutch an accessible way to engage with the language. Officially opened on Saturday, October 3rd, at 09:00 AM, the initiative gathers specific materials such as books, newspapers, and audio stories designed for language practice.
For 12 percent of Deerlijk's residents, Dutch is not their first language. Through the Language Point, the municipality aims to promote inclusion and integration, offering non-native speakers opportunities to improve their Dutch. Materials are also available in the users' original languages, emphasizing multilingualism as a strength.
During the opening on Saturday, October 3rd, which coincides with the Library Customer Day, the library will host a multilingual story time for children aged 4 to 9 and their parents from 09:30 AM to 10:30 AM. The same story will be read in both Dutch and Arabic.
Between 09:00 AM and 12:00 PM, loyal library visitors will be celebrated for the Library Customer Day.
