The municipality of Deerlijk opened its new Language Point in the library on Saturday, October 3rd, an initiative to help non-native speakers practice Dutch.

During the opening, children and their parents were introduced to stories in Dutch and Arabic. A new multilingual story time is scheduled for Wednesday, November 25th, focusing on Dutch and Ukrainian.
The Language Point serves as an accessible space for non-native residents to practice Dutch at their own pace. The offerings include books in simple language, newspapers, audio stories, films, and other practice materials, aimed at facilitating language engagement outside of formal classes.
In addition to Dutch, other home languages are also accommodated. Visitors can find books available in both Dutch and another language, allowing them to maintain their native tongue while improving their Dutch.
The Language Point is located in the library at Hoogstraat 124 and is accessible during regular opening hours.
The multilingual story time at the opening, where the same story was read in Dutch and Arabic by different readers, aimed to introduce children to various languages and bring families together around stories.
The next story time on Wednesday, November 25th, will focus on Dutch and Ukrainian. Children aged 4 to 9 years and their parents are welcome. The event runs from 1:15 PM to 2:15 PM in the library. Participation is free, but reservations are required at least two days in advance.
