The recycling center offers a free alternative for residents wishing to dispose of green and garden waste, even for larger volumes exceeding half a cubic meter. To provide sufficient opportunities, the local government is increasing the number of free visits to the recycling center from 12 to 18 per adult resident. Reservation options are also expanding: per 15-minute time slot, the number of available spots increases from 5 to 8, thereby raising the capacity from 120 to 192 visits per day. Booking a visit is not required long in advance and can also be done on-site, up to 10 minutes before the desired visit. An appointment remains mandatory.
As an alternative for processing garden waste at home, the administration has set up a demo zone at the technical service site, Scharebrugstraat 110. Interested individuals can learn how composting works there, and short information sessions will be organized regularly by staff. Additionally, the GFT (green waste) container offers a solution for fine garden waste, with home collection according to the DifTar tariff of €0.10 per kilo.
The local government is also investigating the cost of a more limited version of the green containers, following the disappearance of the green containers. This decision was partly based on information from IVBO which later proved incorrect, a fact the city regrets. The high annual cost and the identified misuse of the containers also played a role. In the meantime, the recycling center offers a full-fledged free alternative.
