The local government of Blankenberge and CAW Noord-West-Vlaanderen (CAW NWVL) are joining forces to better support young people. A new youth coach will actively seek out young people who need support, focusing on accessibility and prevention.
The coach will be present weekly in places where young people gather, with Jeugdhuis De Leute serving as a key base. Additionally, the coach will collaborate with initiatives such as the OverKop-huis, schools, and the leisure sector. The aim is to identify problems before they escalate and refer young people to the appropriate help if necessary.
Beyond well-being, access to sports, culture, and other leisure activities will also receive attention. The administration aims not only to support young people through difficulties but also to strengthen them in their development and self-reliance. This initiative seeks to ensure that every young person in Blankenberge has opportunities to flourish.
Safety is also a priority. The youth coach will offer support to young people facing issues like bullying, online harassment, or situations where they are at risk of 'slipping away'. Close collaboration with the police, education sector, the Sociaal Huis, the Huis van het Kind, and the youth department is crucial for quicker signal detection and better alignment of prevention and care.
This collaboration strengthens the approach to nuisance situations and pays special attention to young people going through difficult periods. By connecting the involved services, the city can act appropriately, prevent escalation, and better protect young people.
