The Children's Council of Zemst has announced its annual theme for the school year: 'A Place for Teens'. This theme, chosen over four other options, emphasizes the need for meeting places for young people in the municipality.

Students from the fifth and sixth grades of Zemst's primary schools could choose from five possible themes for the children's council. Ultimately, 'a place for teens' received the most votes. With this choice, the children send a clear signal that there is a need for meeting places for teenagers in the municipality.
The four other themes that were not chosen were 'save outdoor play for everyone', 'mental well-being in children', 'children's rights', and 'towards more reading pleasure'.
The children's council, composed of fifth and sixth-grade students, will deliberate on the chosen theme throughout the school year and develop concrete proposals. At the end of the school year, they will present their ideas to the college of mayor and aldermen.
The children's council convenes approximately six times a year on Wednesday afternoons. Students who participate in the fifth grade will continue their membership in the sixth grade.
Children in the fifth grade who wish to contribute to this theme can register by Wednesday, October 14, via jeugd@zemst.be.
