Park Schoonhoven, a popular green area near the city center of Aarschot, now offers three marked running routes. These initiatives, building on the expansion of the walking network in April 2026 by the province of Flemish-Brabant, are designed to attract both novice and experienced athletes.
The routes are designed to make sports accessible to everyone. The blue loop is 2.8 kilometers long and runs along the Demer river, the old Demer meander, and the fishing pond. The green loop of 3 kilometers follows the Demer, passes through the forest, and goes by the recreational pond. The red loop, measuring 6.2 kilometers, combines the blue and green loops and extends to Langdorp. More experienced runners can combine the loops for a total of approximately 12 kilometers. After running, athletes can use the facilities at the Demervallei sports center.
In addition to Park Schoonhoven, Aarschot offers other sporting opportunities. In Sportpark De Laak, the city opened a Finnish track in June 2026 with loops of approximately 600 meters and 800 meters. In Meetshovenbos, there are also marked nature running routes, developed in collaboration with the Agency for Nature and Forest and Sport Vlaanderen, featuring loops of 2.7 km (blue), 3.7 km (green), and 5.5 km (red), which can be combined for about 12 kilometers of running pleasure.
These initiatives underscore Aarschot's efforts to promote its green spaces and encourage residents to actively explore nature while improving their health.
