An estimated 1 in 8 women and 1% of men are affected by breast cancer. In Merchtem, this disease directly or indirectly impacts many residents, including patients and their loved ones.
During the international breast cancer month, Pink Ribbon is launching the ‘Stronger Together’ campaign. This initiative focuses on togetherness and awareness, acknowledging that a breast cancer diagnosis profoundly changes not only the patient's life but also that of those around them. Together, the fight becomes more bearable, and the importance of early detection is highlighted.
In support of this campaign, Merchtem will illuminate its municipal buildings in pink throughout October, the international breast cancer month. This act symbolizes solidarity with everyone affected by breast cancer.
The municipality encourages residents to show their support by wearing a Pink Ribbon badge or bracelet, demonstrating that no one in the community faces the fight against breast cancer alone.
