Although the final 200 meters of the connection to the Mechelsesteenweg (N26) still need to be constructed by the Agency for Roads and Traffic (Agentschap Wegen en Verkeer) – a delay attributed to protracted expropriations and a lack of Flemish budget – the municipality of Haacht wishes to promote the access road.
Since October 15, 2026, the Zuiddijk at the Kruineikebrug has priority, while the Kruineikestraat from Tildonk-dorp must yield. This measure directs through traffic, including freight transport, to the access road. On the north side, the Kruineikestraat retains priority over the Vaartdijk.
The municipality is also improving signage for (freight) traffic. At Haacht's request, the Agency for Roads and Traffic will install pre-signaling on the N26 to guide freight traffic destined for Kruineike or Hambos towards the Molenweg. The tonnage ban in the Kapelleweg will also be better indicated.
Furthermore, Haacht will prohibit through freight traffic in Tildonk-dorp. The through direction from the Kruineikebrug via the Woeringstraat to the Mechelsesteenweg (N26) will no longer be permitted for trucks.
In the long term, Haacht, in collaboration with the municipality of Herent, will designate a zone with a zonal traffic sign C23 where through freight traffic is prohibited. This zone, bounded by the Molenweg, the canal, the Karrestraat, Valgaten, and the Mechelsesteenweg, simplifies the traffic situation by removing various signs and exceptions. Enforcement can be carried out using ANPR cameras.
