EcoWerf, in collaboration with Fost Plus, is launching a control campaign for PMD from October 19 to 31 under the slogan "Don't make a mistake!". The content of PMD bags will be checked during home collections and at recycling centers.

During home collections, waste collectors will check PMD bags. In case of a serious sorting error, the bag will not be collected, and residents will receive an orange sticker. On Tuesday, October 27, a waste coach will distribute flyers to residents whose PMD bag was refused. At the recycling centers, a waste coach will also check PMD bags and assist with sorting. On October 21, the waste coach will be present at the recycling center in Bierbeek (Eikeboomlaan 13).
Residents with a refused PMD bag are advised to bring it back inside, remove the incorrect items, detach the front of the sticker, and present the bag again at the next PMD collection. Those who wish to learn more about sorting errors and how to improve can visit a waste coach at an EcoWerf recycling center and will receive a free blue bag in return.
PMD stands for plastic packaging, metal packaging, and drink cartons. Only packaging made from these materials should be placed in the blue bag. Examples include plastic bottles, pots, trays, films, bags, metal cans, food tins, aluminum trays, foam trays for meat or fish, metal lids and caps, and drink cartons for milk or fruit juice. Packaging made of materials other than plastic, metal, or drink cartons, or products that are not packaging, should not be included in PMD.
Common sorting errors include (plastic) toys, buckets, garden hoses, electrical appliances, batteries, and polystyrene foam. Packaging containing residues of hazardous products such as paint, motor oil, or pesticides should also not be placed in PMD and must be taken to the recycling center.
If unsure about sorting rules, residents can use the sorting guide at www.ecowerf.be/composteren-en-recycleren/sorteerwijzer or visit www.betersorteren.be.
